Regenexx® Shoulder Stem Cell Therapy and PRP / Platelet Rich Plasma Procedures for Shoulder & Rotator Cuff Injuries and Arthritis
Regenexx Shoulder Stem Cell Therapy and PRP Procedures for Rotator Cuff Injuries offer the most advanced, non-surgical treatments for people suffering from shoulder arthritis, torn rotator cuff, shoulder bursitis, tendonitis and other common injuries. These minimally invasive procedures offer a viable treatment alternative for individuals considering elective shoulder surgery or shoulder replacement surgery.
The shoulder is an incredibly complex joint, making all types of shoulder surgery difficult, with unpredictable outcomes. Shoulder surgery recovery can require months of painful rehabilitation to help rebuild strength and range of motion in the shoulder joint.
Alternatively, the Regenexx procedures may help heal and alleviate shoulder problems with a same-day stem cell or platelet rich plasma injection procedure. Regenexx patients typically experience little to no down time from the procedure and avoid the wide range of problems that often follow surgery.
More than 55,460 Regenexx® Procedures have been performed since Regenexx pioneered orthopedic stem cell treatments in 2005. Regenexx Procedures are the most advanced orthopedic stem cell procedures in the world.
- Rotator cuff tears
- Arthritis of the shoulder joint
- Thoracic outlet syndrome
- Labral tears or degeneration
- Rotator cuff tendonitis
- AC Joint Separation
- Recurrent shoulder dislocations

This outcome information summarizes the patient registry data for shoulders treated with the Regenexx same day stem cell procedure using the patient’s own stem cells. It was comprised of a mix of patients with rotator cuff tears, arthritis, labral tears, and instability.
Stem Cell Procedure SafetyView Stem Cell Procedure Safety
Regenexx has published more data on stem cell safety in peer reviewed medical research for orthopedic applications than any other group world-wide. This is a report of 1,591 patients and 1,949 procedures treated with the Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure. Based on our analysis of this treatment registry data, the Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure is about as safe as any typical injection procedure, which is consistent with what we see every day in the clinic.
We understand that as a cash procedure, patients need to have a good understanding of what the typical costs are for each type of treatment. The information below provides typical price ranges for regenerative procedures, with yellow representing the average price for each procedure.

The Regenexx Stem Cell Protocol - More Than a Same-Day Stem Cell Procedure
The Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure is designed to achieve the best possible result. Through several years of testing on thousands of patients, Regenexx has developed a protocol that has demonstrated the best possible patient outcomes. This entire protocol is typically part of a Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure and is included in the pricing range shown above.
Prolotherapy Pre-Injection: This injection is designed to prepare the joint/tissue for the stem cell transplant. The purpose is to help stabilize the affected joint by tightening supporting ligaments. The injection uses a dextrose concentration or platelet concentration that causes mild inflammation that stimulates increased blood flow and your own resident stem cells to begin to differentiate and proliferate. This visit usually takes less than one hour.
Stem Cell Transplant: You will be scheduled to start your stem cell day with a morning appointment where your specialist will aspirate bone marrow from your hip and blood drawn from your arm, in a comfortable procedure that takes from 30 to 45 minutes. This procedure should not be confused with a bone marrow biopsy which usually is very painful. The aspiration is done with local anesthesia and is very well tolerated with a minimum of pain and discomfort. Your marrow and blood is then processed in our on –site laboratory and is ready in about 90 minutes. Then your transplant procedure is performed and takes from 45 to 90 minutes.
Platelet Procedure Post-Injection: This includes the Regenexx Super Concentrated Platelet Rich Plasma Procedure and the Platelet Lysate Procedure as it contains concentrated platelets and platelet lysate (pure growth factors) derived from your blood. You will have your blood draw, processed in the lab and then injected in your tissue. The entire visit takes about 2 hours.
Today's newest regenerative injection procedures, such as Platelet Rich Plasma and Stem Cell Procedures are not covered by insurance. However, some portions of the entire process are covered as shown below.

Shoulder Injuries and the Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure
Stem Cells are in all of us and they are responsible for healing injured bone, ligaments, tendons and tissues. They are the key component behind the Regenexx Procedures. As we get older or injured, we sometimes cannot get enough of these cells into the area in need. The Regenexx Procedures help solve that problem by precisely delivering a high concentration of stem cells and growth factors into the injured area, aiding your body’s ability to heal naturally. Regenexx patients experience little or no down-time from the procedure and typically avoid the long, painful rehabilitation periods to restore joint strength and mobility following invasive surgeries.
Regenexx Stem Cell Procedures on TV
The July 15th, 2014 episode of The Doctor’s features a former two time Olympic pairs figure skater medalist, Lloyd Eisler who has had a failed rotator cuff surgery. Lloyd injured his shoulders while spending a lifetime lifting his skating partners and had a surgery several years ago. Now a father and active Hockey player, he reinjured his rotator cuff and was told he needed another surgery. His wife (the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress-Kristy Swanson) knew an actor colleague who used the Regenexx procedure to successfully treat his rotator cuff, so Lloyd chose a non-surgical route this time.
Seattle King TV recently featured Regenexx patient Paul Lyon in this news segment. Lyon chose to undergo a Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure, rather than an invasive and traumatic knee joint replacement surgery. The story looks at his results and includes an interview with Dr. Christopher Centeno, founder of the Regenexx Procedures.
Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure Overview
The Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure begins when the doctor thoroughly numbs the back of the hip (PSIS) and takes a small bone marrow sample through a needle, as well as a blood draw from a vein in the arm. The marrow is rich in Mesenchymal Stem Cells, which are responsible for healing damaged tissues. The stems cells are isolated from the marrow sample and platelets are isolated from the blood sample. After preparation, these two components will be reinjected directly into the damaged area of the joint using advanced imaging guidance. This ensures the cells are delivered to the exact location of need.
